INTRO: Yugoslav and Bosnian Serb Negotiators at the Geneva talks
have welcomed the aggreement reached there on basic principles
governing negotiations on a peace agreement for
Bosnia-Herzegovina. V-O-A's Central European correspondent,
Wayne Corey, reports.
TEXT: The head of the joint Yugoslav/Bosnia Serb delegation,
Yugoslav Foreing Minister Milan Milutinovic, says the World has
recognized the Bosnian Serb Republic.
He says the Serb Republic is now on an entirely equal footing
with the Muslim/Croat Federation in Bosnia. He says this means
the Serbs can form a confederation with Yugoslavia.
A Bosnian Serb official in Geneva, Nikola Koljevic, says the
international community has acknowledged the existence of the
Serb's state for the first time. He is quoted by the Yugoslav
news agency, TANJUG, as saying the Serbs now have the right to
form a union with Yugoslavia.
It is not clear, though, if the kind of union Mr.Koljevic has
in mind would be acceptable to the Bosnian government.
It is also not clear if the Geneva Agreement will satisfy the
Serbs' army commander, General Ratko Mladic. Under the accord,
the Serbs will have to give up nearly 20 percent of the territory
they have seized during the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina. (Signed)
